Regulated Facilities

These are some of the facilities we regulate.

Barber shops & Beauty salons

Barber shops, beauty salons and nail salons are inspected prior to opening to ensure compliance with Wethersfield Municipal Code, Chapter 56. There are 5 barber shops, 29 beauty salons and 5 nail salons in Wethersfield. Inspections focus on proper equipment, facilities, and sanitation.

Barbershops, beauty salons and nail salons in Wethersfield must obtain an annual license from the Health District to operate. Complaints concerning the operation or condition of a barbershop, beauty salon or nail salon should be directed to the central office.

Day Care

Day care facilities are inspected prior to opening and every two years thereafter to ensure compliance with the Connecticut Department of Public Health, Section 19a-79-1a thru 13. There are 49 day care facilities in the District. Inspections focus on safety, cleanliness, equipment and proper food service. The term “day care” refers to facilities with 7 or more children on a regular basis for a part of the twenty-four hours in one or more days in the week.

Day care facilities are licensed for a two-year period by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Complaints concerning the operation or condition of a day care facility should be directed to the Sanitarian at the appropriate District office or to the Connecticut Department of Public Health at (860) 509-8045.

Swimming Pools

Public swimming pools are inspected on a routine basis to ensure compliance with the requirements of the CT Public Health Code. There are 25 seasonal and 8 year-round public pools in the District. Inspections focus on pool water chemistry/disinfection, safety equipment, filtration and general cleanliness.

The term “Public Pool” includes schools, health clubs, motels/hotels, apartments, condominiums and private clubs. Public pools must obtain an annual license from the District to operate. “Complaints” concerning the operation or condition of a public pool should be directed to a District office.
