Healthy Living
You are the only you there is! There are many factors that affect how you feel on a day-to-day basis. Some things are out of your control. A few things are IN your control, at least some of the time. Two of those are how physically active you choose to be, and what food and how much of it you select to eat.
Physical Activity
“Physical activity if the closest thing we have to a wonder drug” concluded a former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Central Connecticut Health District provided each town with a public bike repair station and hosts an annual Four Town Walking Competition to encourage physical activity.
Healthy Eating
Most research on nutrition reminds us to eat plenty of fresh produce. You can find plenty at the Farmers Markets in the Central Connecticut Health District.
Are you in need of fresh produce, dairy, meat and bread? Mobile Foodshare is a “pantry on wheels”. There are locations in all four towns in the Health District, with trucks visiting each site once every two weeks. There is no cost for the food, but in order to visit the site in Newington you must be a Newington resident and call 860-665-8595.
